What Do Your Wedding Colors Say About You?

Do you remember Mood Rings being all the rage? Excited Bride and Bridesmaids jumping on a bed by k-girl on Flickr

It might have been in the middle of my junior high years that those little trinkets came back in full force after their first wave of popularity in the 70's. My friends and I absolutely loved consulting those rings! In retrospect there might be something a little silly about having a piece of jewelry that tells you about yourself: "Hmmm, the ring is red - I didn't realize that I was angry!"

Nevertheless, there is something to be said about how much we like being told thing about ourselves (nice things, of course!) even if they are things that we may already know. And believe it or not, color can actually reveal a great deal about a person!

Meditating on this point I began to wonder about wedding colors. An old acquaintance had posted pictures of her wedding and the colors, orange and deep purple, struck me as being a strong and vibrant statement. When so many brides I see are tending towards a color combo of crimson and white, I found the orange and purple to be refreshing and yummy!

One Bride's Choice

Bride with a yellow bouquet by Lovely bride-to-be Lena just chose her wedding colors and shared her choices with me via Google Chat (which has been very helpful for keeping in touch!) Surprisingly, yummy was the exact word that I used in response:

Me: what colors were you thinking?

 Lena: Yellow, Green, and Orange
Yellow and green for the [bridesmaids'] dresses
orange accents-flowers what not

Me
: yummy!

Lena
: I want it to be very cheerful!

To be perfectly honest, I would never have thought of that color combination! And normally "yummy" wouldn't have been my first reaction. Those are always the colors of Skittles that I give away (I've never been a fan of citrus flavors). But those colors just seemed so perfect for Lena. After doing a bit of research I realized that these colors indeed very accurate descriptors of Lena and her fiance, Mike.

A bride's choice of wedding colors can actually say a great deal about her relationship with her fiance, her outlook on life and her personality!

Project Wedding

Project Wedding has a great list of wedding colors and what they reveal about a bride's personality. Read on to see what they say about Lena's colors:

  • Yellow: The color of a sunny day, yellow denotes happiness and hope. Exuding warmth and vitality and usually possessing a great sense of humor, people who love yellow have cheerful spirits and optimistic values. You tend to look forward to the future and are intellectual, creative and idealistic. Yellow represents enlightenment and spirituality, lending itself as a great color on your day of matrimony.
  • Green: Green shades symbolize life, freshness, nature and fertility. A common choice for eco-friendly brides, green shows that you value your health and the environment. A harmonized and balanced color, green is a mixture of warm yellow and cool blue, just like its admirers. A calming and tranquil hue, brides who select green are affectionate, frank and responsible. You seek stability and balance, yet remain fiercely principled and refined.
  • Orange: Spontaneous and daring, brides who choose orange are bold. Because orange is a happy and trendy hue, orange enthusiasts tend to be popular, have excessive energy and are part of a large social circle. From a bright and happy backdrop to an exotic, spicy richness, brides who prefer orange tend to be fearless and curious, with a zest for life.

I think that these colors sum Lena up pretty perfectly! These colors will invest such wonderful energy and vibrancy into her wedding.
