Make Your Wedding Sing…Literally
Every couple dreams of a unique, one of a kind wedding day that really represents them.
The challenge is figuring out what really represents you. How can you make your wedding stand out from all the cookie-cutter weddings you’ve seen…without breaking the bank?
Many of our couples have designed that unique wedding experience by including the performances of their talented family and friends.
Jeff and I attract a lot of creative, artistic, musical clients. (Jeff does have that cool musician cred, even if I don’t.) You can take a tip from them and use the resources you’ve already got…your talented wedding guests…to take your wedding to a whole new level.
Do you have any talented singers, actors or musicians among your friends or family? Having them perform at your wedding adds a truly personal, meaningful touch.
I’m not suggesting that you pimp out your guest list or anything. Just think about your talented guests and tell them you would be beyond pleased to have them perform on your wedding day. If you're a musician yourself, it's totally appropriate for you to make this the centerpiece of your wedding. In fact, I'd call you crazy if you didn't!
Let me give you a few examples our Hudson Valley couples have pulled off…
One of our Round Hill couples had Jeff perform acoustic guitar music for her ceremony as the guests arrived and took their seats. Then, just as the bride was about to enter on her father’s arm, the bride’s brother swapped positions with Jeff. He played and sang an amazing, heart felt cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” for his sister’s walk down the aisle.
Another bride asked her musician father to play guitar for her ceremony on the hilltop of West Park Winery overlooking the Hudson River, a bluegrass song he had written when she was a little girl. They both had happy tears in their eyes as he finished and embraced her.
At the request of another of our brides, Jeff learned a song the bride’s grandfather had written and performed at the weddings of both his daughters. Though he had passed away years before, the bride was able to walk down the aisle to her grandfather’s song.
Music is extremely powerful and on your wedding day it’s the perfect medium to carry all the love, anticipation, hopes and fears wrapped up in becoming husband and wife. Add the personal touch of having your loved one perform for you and it’s truly unforgettable.
Now, if you’re really, really bold…
You can sing at your own wedding.
One such courageous bride, who spent years as a member of her college a cappella group, serenaded her new husband at their Dutchess Manor reception with, “Be My Baby” originally performed by the Ronettes. She circled him, smiling as she sang and completely nailed it, bringing down the house.
Though I don’t consider myself a “singer,” I’ve taken voice lessons with Jackie Venable who lives right around the corner from me in Poughkeepsie. My goal was to strengthen and cultivate my speaking voice, but before long she had me singing Broadway tunes and Italian arias. And let me tell you, some of what came out wasn’t too shabby.
The right coach can whip your voice into shape for your wedding, giving you the confidence you need to create one of the most memorable, emotional moments of your entire life.
Even if you can’t hold a tune in a bucket, consider how you can use music and the performances of loved ones to create an extra special wedding day experience. Take it from a girl who has partaken in hundreds of wedding “performances;” you’ll be glad you did.
