This morning I was stumped by a question: Do you know anyone in the Hudson Valley who does old-fashioned lemonade stands for weddings?
Now I've seen pitchers of lemonade offered to guests before a summer ceremony in the gardens at Round Hill House or on the hill at West Park Winery. But I couldn't recall an actual lemonade stand.
A cool, refreshing glass of lemonade is a lovely and well-appreciated touch during the dog days of summer. And what could be more charming than to serve them from an old-fashioned stand?
My first advice is to ask your caterer. They can probably recommend the best way to pull it off.
Then I started thinking...it couldn't be that difficult to make your own lemonade stand.
Turns out that it's not complicated at all! Just set up a stand on the rustic table or wine barrel of your choice, add a sign, a few strategically placed lemons, lemonade and something to serve it in and you're all set. Guests can help themselves or your bartender can serve them.
Here's What You Need:
- Table or wine barrel
- A summery tablecloth
- A sign
- Pitcher or dispenser
- Ice
- Mason jars or other serving cups
- Your favorite lemonade recipe (from powder or fresh)
- Lemons or lemon-inspired flowers to dress up the table
Here are some helpful resources I found on my lemonade stand hunt:
Lemon wedding inspiration boards from Inspire the Bride, AC Ellis Weddings and the Wedding Chicks.
A lemon themed bridal shower, complete with lemonade stand on a lovely tablecloth with lemony floral arrangements.
Lemon-inspired graphics for signs.
The cutest FREE downloadable lemonade templates for signs and labels, for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions.
A place to buy vintage lemonade dispensers.
Since I seem to have been born without that crafty gene, if I wanted to create a lemonade stand for my wedding, I would first enlist the experts in my life for their decorating assistance: my sister-in-law, the costume designer; my mother-in-law, Martha Stewart in-training and my florist.
You can use the templates and inspiration ideas above to create your sign, but I favor the truly old-fashioned...and super simple...approach of chalk on a blackboard.
This is one do it yourself project I just might attempt myself, with the help of my trusty "experts," of course!
