Brides, this blog is for you!
Groom's cakes are very up and coming these days. A tradition that started in the south has spread around the country and is getting more popular every day. It's a great way to have that wedding cake YOU want, while having a special something for him as well.
Groom's cakes are often a surprise and that is served either at the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding, or as an accompaniment to the wedding cake itself.
Keeping this cake a secret is often a little tricky, but a great cake maker will work with you on this. All it takes is a phone call to let us know it is a surprise, and we will lie to your groom as much as we need to!
Wedding cake for 200? No problem. We know you want a groom's cake the same day, so we balance the servings accordingly...as well as prices! (But we keep that between the bride and us.)
So, you want a groom's cake. You have the option to make it something sentimental or a cake that caters to his likes. Sometimes we can even do both at once! We'll tackle each one of these options individually.

Sentimental:
Let's say you were engaged at a baseball game and you saved the tickets. Have a replica made of some giant tickets marking the date, seats, who was playing, etc. This way the cake means something to the both of you and reminds him of the day he popped the question!
The best route when thinking of something sentimental is considering how you got engaged. It is a great start and can get your brainstorming.

Funny - His Likes & Hobbies:
A groom's cake to fit this bill is much easier. My suggestion is grab a piece of paper and write down his hobbies, his likes.
Is he a poker fan, a beer geek, or perhaps he loves cars? Maybe he's loves a certain food or cuisine, a sports team, or anything from the New York City skyline, an airplane or boat. The sky is truly the limit.
Do you two have a running joke? It can probably be translated into a cake! You know your guy best. So before you call up your baker, make a list. Star the ideas you like best, but keep an open mind. Most things can be turned into a cake, but some can get a little lost in translation.
Now to get a blend of both sentimental and funny it is quite easy. A sentimental cake that incorporates a hobby of his can be achieved easily as long as it's really from the heart.
A good cake maker can do this well, but some can easily fall short in this area. Do some research and talk with your cake designer. If they cannot draw what you're thinking, they probably cannot make it out of cake!
Groom's cakes are meant to be fun. Never stress out about an idea. If you're hitting a wall with ideas, give your baker a call. If they cannot help you with this, find someone who can. You want a baker to be on the same page as you. A great groom's cake will make a crowd Ohh and Ahh, and especially mean something to him!
