Destination Weddings Don’t Have to Be Costly

The fact of the matter is that destination weddings may or may not cost more than a traditional wedding. This depends on the destination that you choose, the number of people that you invite and how extravagant your at-home wedding would be if you chose to go that route instead. In some cases, destination weddings are a cheaper option because the bride and groom opt to limit the size of the wedding to just their closest friends and relatives. There are some great package deals out there for package weddings these days. Of course, if you take a large wedding party to an exotic location and go for all of the frills, then your destination wedding may be costly.

The Benefits of Destination Weddings Colorado destination wedding

There are many great reasons that couples choose to enjoy a destination wedding together. In addition to the pleasure of getting married in a scenic destination, some examples of the benefits of destination weddings include:

  • Destination wedding planning is generally done through an all-inclusive package option. Most couples choose a package so that they don’t have to worry about making decisions on every single detail of the wedding event. Some people find that this reduces the stress of planning a wedding.
  • There is no extra travel to reach your honeymoon. It can be stressful to plan and enjoy a wedding and then need to immediately get on a plane to enjoy your honeymoon. With the destination wedding, you are already at your honeymoon destination and can just relax and enjoy yourself during and after the wedding reception.

The Drawbacks of Destination Weddings

Destination weddings have certain drawbacks that may make them not worth it to you in the end. Those drawbacks include:
  • The hassles of getting everyone organized to come to your wedding. Friends may not be able to attend the wedding because of the cost of travel. You may have to foot the bill for some family members to attend if you really want them to be able to be there. This may involve headaches with making travel plans especially if you are getting married in a non-U.S. destination.
  • Your family is with you on your honeymoon. This sounds wonderful to some people and horrifying to other people. Typically the wedding party extends their vacation beyond the date of the wedding so they’ll be there with you during your honeymoon vacation. You may not get to enjoy the honeymoon activities that you otherwise would because of the added people who are there with you.
  • There may be legal issues. If you get married in a place other than where you live then you need to make sure that you understand the laws regarding your marriage. You want to make sure that the marriage is legal when you get home! There may be added expenses involved in this process. Wedding couple strolling the beach

Are Destination Weddings Worth It?

In terms of cost, a destination wedding can be worth it. Planned properly, it does not need to be any pricier than a traditional wedding. However, you do need to weigh the pros and cons of the destination wedding. If you aren’t going to be able to have the wedding of your dreams at your destination then it may not be worth the price that you pay to plan this type of wedding.
