Celebrities do it bigger and better in most things in their lives, and that includes weddings. From a multi-million dollars soiree’ to the biggest and best cakes, flowers and clothes, these events make history. Some give their guests amazing gifts, like London theatre tickets, while others focus their attention on how expensive the event can be. Which celebrity weddings will go down in history as the biggest and best?
#1 - Prince William and Kate Middleton
Everyone watched as Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot in their royal ceremony. No expense was spared for the son of the late Princess Diana and Prince Charles. They were married at the Westminster Abbey, the perfect location for a royal affair. There were nearly two thousand people in attendance and more than seventy million watched from television. At a cost of nearly £20 million, this was one of the most elaborate weddings in history.
#2 - Donald Trump and Melania Knauss
The Donald is known for doing things bigger and better, and his wedding to super model Melania was no exception. In 2005, Donald and Melania tied the knot with more than 500 of their closest friends. Of course the bridal gown had to be a sensation; it had more than 50 lbs. of material and was rumored to cost more than a quarter of a million dollars. The wedding was accented with real pearls and rhinestones. Guests were treated like royalty at this posh event, drinking bottles of champagne that were nearly 1K per bottle. The cake weighed over 200 lbs. and was said to have more than three thousand roses on it.
#3 - Ryan Sutter and Trista Rehn
Made famous for the Bachelor and Bachelorette shows, Trista found her soul mate thanks to television. In a fitting way to celebrate love, Trista and Ryan got married on national television. The over the top affair sealed the relationship and made them one of the few couples from the hit ABC show to actually make it to the altar. With a price tag of almost four million dollars and food flown in from all over the world, this event went down in history.
#4 - Elvis Presley and Priscilla Beaulieu
The king of rock n roll found his queen when he married Priscilla on May 1, 1967. Elvis had an odd request at his ceremony; the word “obey” had to be removed from all the verbiage. They would marry two times, and she stayed equally devoted to the king even after their divorce shortly before his death. The elaborate ceremony made headlines around the world and is still known as one of the best celebrity weddings of all time.
#5 - Lady Diana and Prince Charles
The whole world watched in admiration as “the people’s princess” married her betrothed Prince Charles. Married in St. Paul's Cathedral on July 29, 1981, this event was known as the "wedding of the century.” London declared a holiday to commemorate the event. Nearly four thousand people gathered for the nuptials and more than seven hundred and fifty million watched from television. The dress cost nearly £9000 back then and no expense was spared in any part of the royal ceremony.
